Hall to be used

Dormant space set to be brought back to life by council

MEMORIAL Hall could be up and running again, within the coming months, as Alpine Shire Council looks to fill the currently empty premises.

The building which was formerly a popular meeting place and host to numerous events and activities in town has been used sparingly over the last few years and has seen no use in the last 14 months.

But council last week put out a call for Expressions of Interest (EoI) for the future use of the hall and mayor Jan Vonarx said they were keen to see it being used again, either by the community or for a purpose that adds value to the town.

“We had someone come forward who was interested in using it so to make it fair for everyone we have asked for people to make formal Expressions of Interest,” she said.

“There has been much talk about it over the last few years and we realise it’s got to be used otherwise it’s just deteriorating.

“People have come up with all kinds of suggestions over the years but we need people who are actually going to run it so if we can get someone who wants to use it 24/7 and is willing to do some of the work to get it up to scratch we’d be mad not to say yes.”
