NORTH East Water (NEW) has dismissed claims the Bakers Gully Dams will be destroyed, following a stakeholder meeting earlier this month.
Bright local Stuart Hargreaves raised concerns at Alpine Shire Council’s ordinary meeting over NEW’s newest proposal regarding safety works to be carried out on the Bakers Gully Dams.
“I’m very concerned with North East Water’s approach to the Bakers Gully Dams,” he said.
“We had a meeting with them yesterday and they are using $1million to wreck it; they’re pulling it to pieces.
“It’s a wonderful asset and it has been there for 100 years and I want to know why council isn’t taking it back from North East Water.
“It seems as though they (NEW) won’t consider what the local community values.”
Another member of the Bakers Gully Dams stakeholder group, Kevin Black, said the meeting was held to discuss and review the new design of the dams.
