Community projects get under way

NATURAL BEAUTY: Myrtleford and District Landcare and Sustainability Group coordinator Gayle South points out some native vegetation to Alpine Shire deputy mayor Ron Janas and Alpine Shire councillor John Forsyth.

THE newly formed Myrtleford and District Landcare and Sustainability Group (MDLSG) have targeted their first community projects after holding a planning day last Saturday.

The group travelled to a number of different sites identified as possible projects, in the morning before holding their planning session at the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) research station in Ovens in the afternoon.

MDLSG secretary Zuvele Leschen said the group had very fruitful discussions on each visited site and how the group could become involved.

“Before Saturday we had talked a lot about projects but many of us hadn’t actually seen many of the sites we had identified,” she said.

“After visiting those areas we sat down and rated each one on the level of priority we will give it.

“As a result a lot of the things we had spent time discussing previously have been downgraded after looking at the work involved.”
