Bright finish to year

HITTING OUT: Nick Howden (main) and Josh Grundy (inset) got Bright off to a quick start in the Wanderers’ twenty20 match against Milawa last Saturday.

BRIGHT has ended 2014 on a positive note in Wangaratta and District cricket with a win in last weekend’s twenty20 against Milawa at Pioneer Park.

The Wanderers’ total of 8/131 proved too much for Milawa, which finished its innings 31 runs shy of the target at 6/100.

Batting first the Wanderers looked set for a score of around 180 after openers Nick Howden (32) and Josh Grundy (23) got their side off to a flying start adding 56 in the opening six overs.

But the loss of Howden triggered a top order collapse that saw the Wanderers lose four wickets for just nine runs with Milawa’s Ryley Sharp claiming three victims in two overs.

And then when veteran Greg Walsh retired hurt after snapping his Achilles tendon while setting off for a run the home side was essentially 5/65.

However, James Love (30 not out) and Reuben Jamieson (28) worked hard to get the home side back on track.
