ALPINE Shire residents and visitors will be able to experience the Harrietville to Bright Shared Trail just in time for Christmas.
An onset of dry weather has seen good progress on the construction of the trail, and Alpine Shire Council director infrastructure services Ian Ellet said if everything goes to plan, the trail should be operational in the next couple of weeks.
“We are on track to have the trail ready for use by the Christmas holidays in time for the annual influx of visitors,” he said.
“The core work on the trail has been finished, and we are waiting on sealing to be done on the Bright end of the trail.
“There are also a few spots in Harrietville at Tavare Park and some smaller areas along the road which need to be resurfaced due to some quality issues around the sealing.
“Our contractor has also placed and levelled topsoil along the trail edges, providing a more even surface, and we foresee that the removal of any lumps and large frocks from the trail will be an ongoing process until the project is completely finished.”
