CHRISTMAS will soon be arriving in Bright’s town centre thanks to a combined effort from the Bright and District Chamber of Commerce and Alpine Shire Council.
Last year, members of the community voiced their disappointment over the fact Bright, a major tourist town, had no Christmas decorations within the town centre and requested Alpine Shire Council did something about it.
According to Bright and District Chamber of Commerce president Tom Smith, the chamber decided it was time to take the reins and has been working with the Alpine Shire Council and local businesses to nut out the best way the town can show some Christmas spirit.
“The Alpine Shire Council decided that each of the respective chambers of commerce in each major town should have responsibility for Christmas decorations, and to this end have provided a modest sum towards such costs,” he said.
Alpine Shire Council offered the Bright, Mt Beauty, and Myrtleford chambers of commerce funding of up to $5,000 to help purchase Christmas decorations for their respective towns.
“As with all government funds, they come with a list of preferred conditions on what the funds should be spent on.
