OVERWHELMING is an often-used word, but in the case of the local response to the fundraising event this coming Saturday for local woman and cancer sufferer Carly Montgomery, it certainly applies to the letter.

Diagnosed with stage three cervical cancer following a routine check-up in May of this year, the Myrtleford born and raised mother of two has been undergoing constant treatment and spending much of her time travelling up and down to Melbourne.

In mid-June a group of Carly’s friends got talking while Carly was undergoing treatment and were unanimous that they could help, even in some small way.

“We came up with the idea we could cook for Carly and her family, but that seemed a bit of a waste seeing she was a chef,” said organiser Elishe Hazeldine.

“So we then moved on to the fundraising event idea, to assist with Carly’s medical costs.

“We put the word out on Facebook and canvassed local businesses and the idea just blossomed.”
